This project is a showcase of design, project management, and workmanship brought together by J & M Remodel to meet the client’s goals and schedule, despite problems with the availability of the materials for the project. This Newcastle master bathroom incorporates materials and features that are both top of the line and state of the art, including

  • Schluter Ditra-Heat floor warming system
  • Wedi Shower system
  • Carrera Tile
  • Free standing soaking tub with wand
  • Frameless glass shower surround
  • Sconce Lighting
  • Bullnose tile window encasement
  • Flush inset medicine cabinet
  • Kohler showroom design

Our client described their experience with the J & M Remodel team in their review on the reviews page of our site thusly:

“We redid our master bathroom - tore it down to the studs, knocked down a wall, full tile, glass shower - the works.

Top three things we looked for in a contractor (1) finish on time, (2) communicate regularly and (3) be neat. Having done home renovations (while living in the house) before, these were must haves. J&M nailed all three. They finished their work a week early. They explained the plan for the week at the start of the week and communicated next week’s plan at the end of every week. Finally, they cleaned up after themselves every day.

The only challenge we had was our fault. We used a designer and acquired the materials through their suppliers. We ended up short on tile and had to reorder which took a week. J&M just worked around it. Our major issue was a miscommunication between me and my wife which lead to the counter tops coming in a week late. Totally our issue, no issue with J&M. This leads me to the pointer. If you haven't ordered your materials yet, and J&M can get what you want, order through them and they will sync timeline.

Overall, very happy with J & M. We have already slotted our next project with them in December. And will be using them for a kitchen update sometime next year.”

Maple Valley Bathroom Remodel

View of the Vanity with Dual Sinks, Mirrors, and Lighting in the Maple Valley Bathroom Remodel

A complete bathroom remodel was required for our customer's home, which was originally built in the 1980s. The primary users of the bathroom are children, so the bathroom design and features were chosen with their needs in mind.

A Bathroom Remodel That Combines Timeless Style with Practical Functionality

The J & M Remodel team replaced the fiberglass-surround bathtub with a curbless, glass-enclosed, walk in shower. The updated shower walls feature a crisp, clean matte white subway tile. The J & M Remodel team replaced the shower floor with a pebble shower pan. Other changes include the installation of two shower heads—one fixed, one on a shower hose—and insetting a natural stone niche into the shower wall. These updates transformed the dated bathtub/shower combination into a modern, spa-like environment.

Wedi Shower System

The J & M Remodel team installed the Wedi Shower System underneath the new shower tile. Wedi Systems are known for their waterproof performance as well as for durability and longevity. The J & M Remodel team are certified to install the Wedi Shower System. J & M Remodel team members completed extensive training by Wedi Systems recently. As a result, any Wedi Shower System that the J & M Remodel team installs is warranted by Wedi for an extended 15 to 20-year period.

Bathroom Flooring and Vanity

The dated vinyl bathroom flooring was replaced with large tiles that are set on point. The new tiles were chosen to blend well with the pebble shower pan.

The dual sink vanity has lots of storage to keep items off the quartz countertop. The J & M Remodel team inset a niche into the bathroom wall with power so that small electric items can be tucked away yet remain readily accessible. Lighter paint, brighter lighting, and dual mirrors over each sink complete the bathroom remodel project.

The resulting bathroom represents a dramatic transformation that the children will enjoy for many years to come.

Designer Touches Highlight Ballard Bathroom Remodel Project

Bathroom Remodel Projects in Seattle WA by J and M Remodel-NWBlueRidgeDrive,Seattle-0

Our client contacted J & M Remodel to update both bathrooms in their Ballard home along with other projects including flooring and a minor kitchen update. Once we established a plan for the layout and functionality of the bathrooms, our client brought in a professional design firm, Heidi Callier of heidicaillierdesign.com to assist with the aesthetics of the project.

The upstairs bathroom had water damage, so a full tear down and rot repair was necessary. While the extensive demolition due to the water damage was unfortunate, the J & M Remodel team was able to start the project with a clean slate. The double vanity in the upstairs bathroom was custom made with large pull out drawers that wrap around the sink to maximize the available storage. All the fixtures that the client selected were high-end and will remain beautiful and functional over time. The design of the walk-in shower in the upstairs bathroom makes use of the available space and includes recessed niches for storage. The use of the natural marble throughout the upstairs bathroom along with designer finishes makes this space a real showstopper.

From a Small Space to a Dream Master Bathroom

The downstairs bathroom started as a small powder room. The J & M Remodel team expanded the downstairs bathroom by making use of a large adjacent closet. This increased the downstairs bathroom square footage substantially, which provided space for both a soaking tub as well as a walk-in shower. Extensive tile work went into the downstairs bathroom including a custom border around the tub and toilet area, and a large custom shower bench. The downstairs bathroom features handcrafted corbels above the tub, and the shower includes a linear drain and a large recessed niche.

Tiny House Remodel, Bathroom Addition, and Bathroom Remodel in Seattle’s Queen Anne Neighborhood

Carriage House Remodel Project in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle WA by J and M Remodel

Transformation From Shed to Tiny House

Our client had an existing outbuilding—essentially a shed with a living area—on his property, in the Upper Queen Anne area of Seattle. Rents in this area can fetch a premium, and our client wanted to transform this space in order to offer the carriage house as a short-term rental. A property like this one is sometimes referred to as an Accessory Dwelling Unit—#ADU—or a Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit—#DADU.  J & M Remodel worked with the Seattle based architectural design firm Atelier Drome for the project design and best use of the space. The addition of a kitchenette was a critical need. Despite the limited amount of available space, we were able to incorporate the necessary utilities necessary for a well appointed short-term rental property. The bathroom space was maximized by way of an enclosed glass shower. Existing wood paneling was salvaged from the interior demolition of the original structure, and was reused to incorporate a warm, rustic feel. We added a sleeping loft accessed via a modular ladder along with skylights and additional custom windows to match the existing home.

Basement Bathroom Addition

Our client’s second project was a finished basement that was to incorporate a kitchen, bath, and laundry area. However, due to budget restraints, we agreed to complete the bathroom addition in the first phase of the project. However, the J & M Remodel team was able to rough-in the electrical and plumbing for the kitchen and laundry rooms, so when the client’s budget permits, the remainder of the project will go smoothly, without any rework. As you can see from the photos below, the bathroom addition turned out beautifully. The use of a light gray and white color scheme really helped to brighten the basement area. The walk-in shower features a custom-built bench and recessed niches that offer a luxurious feel while adding to the practicality of the smaller space for the bathroom. The classic look of Carrara marble will stand the test of time and is period-correct with the home. The herringbone layout of the flooring offers a nice modern pop to the overall look of the space.

Bathroom Remodel

As the J & M Remodel team worked steadily around our client’s home to complete the Carriage House and basement bathroom projects, our client asked if we could tackle one more room. The main house guest bathroom included only a powder bath with a small vanity and toilet. The bathroom has direct access from the guest bedroom, and needed a shower as well. The J & M Remodel team found that there was quite a bit of wasted space that could be reused. The enabled the J & M Remodel team to add a stand up glass-enclosed shower without having to change the overall footprint of the bathroom. Classic white subway tiles were used for the bathroom wall, and complementary hexagon tiles were used for the shower pan. The J & M Remodel team replaced the existing vanity with a small white vanity with a quartz countertop that ties in well with the white shower.

Seattle Bathroom Remodel Enlarges the Bath and Delights Our Customer

2019 REX award winning Bathroom Remodel Project in Seattle WA by J and M Remodel-52544 5th Ave SW Seattle 98146

Our customer contacted J & M Remodel to discuss some great ideas about enlarging their main floor bathroom by taking some square footage from an adjacent bedroom closet. We determined that this could be done, and that the expansion would made a huge difference in the aesthetics and functionality of the bath.

After opening the wall to use the available closet space, we relocated the tub and shower to accommodate a larger vanity. The new vanity provided a dramatic increase in storage space than the original pedestal sink.

Our team added Wainscoting that extends halfway up the wall, offering a rich, dramatic effect. Encaustic-look art porcelain tiles stand out as the showpiece of this space, and go well with the classic subway surround. A large niche with glass shelving offers generous space for shower products, and the directional change of the tile is a great touch.

Here's a portion of the five-star review that our customer left about the project on our Google listing. You can access our reviews on Google and other sites on our Reviews page:

“We had the very best bathroom remodel experience with J & M [Remodel]. We received a handful of bids, with theirs right in the middle as far as price, but way above the rest as far as detail and professionalism. From beginning to end, this was painless. The final invoice was very close to the original bid, and the job was finished in exactly the amount of time promised.”

Update in May, 2019: J & M Remodel's work on this project won the coveted REX award for bathroom remodel projects in our entry category! There are more details on our Reviews page.

Burien Bathroom Remodel Projects Feature a Steam Shower and Beautiful Tile

After picture of Bathroom Remodel Projects by J and M Remodel in Burien WA 98146

Each of these two bathroom remodel projects feature unique upgrades and special custom touches by J & M Redmodel. In the case of the existing standard size and layout bathroom, our client wanted to eliminate the bathtub and add a spacious walk-in shower. As you’ll see in the photos below, the custom vanities and granite countertops blend seamlessly with the 12 x 24 floor tiles. The shower features two vertical glass mosaic accent strips, bringing additional visual interest to the room. The large mirror spanning the length of the vanity is backlit with LED lighting. The high-end Hansgrohe plumbing fixtures ensure that this bathroom will stand the test of time.

For the second bathroom, the client wanted to incorporate a steam shower. However, the existing bathroom had limited square footage for the job. We expanded the bathroom footprint to accommodate the steam shower by moving a wall and by making use of some available space previously used for storage. The ThermaSol steam unit we installed for this project is the preferred steam generator used by J & M Remodel. The fold-down teak bench was hand crafted by J & M Remodel to fit the available space perfectly. The floor tile selected by our client is unlike any we had previously seen, and turned out great. Both bathroom remodel projects feature LED backlit mirrors.

There's a recent update to this project! Justin Schuder, co-owner of J & M Remodel, was interviewed about our use of a Thermasol Steam Generator for this project by Pro Remodeler magazine in their November 2018 issue. Click to read the article to learn more about the project and why we chose a Thermasol Steam Generator.
