Kitchen remodel transforms Montlake home for new Seattle residents
Our clients were new transplants to the Seattle metropolitan area, choosing to be close to our world-renowned Children’s Hospital. They were unfamiliar with the area but found a rare 1923 home in Montlake. The home was located exactly where they wanted to be but required extensive updating. They contracted with J & M to renovate the kitchen, dining area, staircase, lighting, trim, baseboards, and flooring on both the main level and the basement. The kitchen was extensively renovated by opening up walls and integrating them with the adjacent dining area and living space. The kitchen became the first thing you would see, whether entering through the front or side door of the home. The new layout changed the look of the dark and compartmentalized craftsman style while flowing with the classic lines of the home’s architecture. The kitchen design included top-of-the-line Bosch, Liebherr, and Fisher + Paykel appliances, completely custom cabinetry, and a walk-in pantry with a custom sliding door.

Seattle Remodel Delivers the Kitchen of Their Dreams
Our clients were a real pleasure to work with on this Seattle kitchen remodel project. They delighted us by producing both a great time lapse video of their project along with a very detailed review of their experience with J & M Remodel from start to finish. The text of the review is below the video shown below, along with some additional project photos to display the project to its fullest effect.
J&M were our contractors for our kitchen remodel. The remodel project involved removing all existing appliances, cabinets, countertops, and lighting, and replacing with new ones, including tiling on the walls.
We kept the basic footprint the same but re-worked some functionality and added a few new features like a wine fridge. We enjoyed working with the entire team throughout the project. Justin was helpful in answering our questions as we selected appliances and prepared for the renovation. He stayed in touch during the project and helped troubleshoot when needed. Roman, our project lead, kept us informed each day on our progress. We knew when they would be at the house to do work and when various subcontractors would be coming as well. Roman and his team spent a lot of time in our house with us during the renovation and were always polite, friendly, and helpful. They took care to clean up their workspaces and answered our many questions.
We love the finished kitchen! It is the kitchen of my dreams and turned out so much better than I imagined! Roman and the team worked so hard to make sure everything looked beautiful and that we were fully satisfied. One of my friends saw the kitchen and said it looked “like a magazine” and I was so excited and proud. I agree and have J&M to thank for their hard work!

Ballard Kitchen Remodel Delights our Customers
Our clients contacted J & M Remodel about remodeling their kitchen. Our clients’ project scope included opening up a wall between their dining area and living room to create an open concept feel in their newly purchased 1942 Bungalow in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.
After J & M and our clients agreed on the remodeling project goals and details, the J & M team began the remodeling project by opening and raising the walls from the kitchen to the dining area and from the dining area to the living room. The bright right white cabinetry and quartz countertops match the style of the home beautifully, updating it while working seamlessly with the Bungalow style. The J & M team applied gorgeous gray glass subway tile to all of the walls in the kitchen. The floating wood shelving that the J & M team built ties in the wood exterior door and complements the glass front cabinets. Finally, the high-end kitchen appliances and the strategically placed smart electrical outlets that the J & M Remodel team installed completed this beautifully detailed space.
Our clients were delighted by the outcome of their kitchen remodel project. Here is a portion of the five-star Google review that our client left about the work that J & M Remodel performed for them.
“J&M did a lovely job on our kitchen remodel. We had them tear it down to the studs, remove a wall, close up a doorway, and then put it all back together into a designer kitchen. They were also very accommodating to a major change in scope when we unexpectedly needed them to pull up all the flooring on the main floor, level it, and lay new hardwoods.”
“J&M displayed a willingness to accommodate changes and fix any minor issues to ensure we would walk away loving the end product. For example, during a final walkthrough we showed them some issues with the finish on the quartz countertops. They arranged for the counter subcontractor to come out and repair them for us. So appreciated!”
“I would highly recommend them and have already shared their contact information with our neighbor who was blown away by the beauty of our kitchen and new wood floors. We can’t wait to work with them again on our next remodel project.”
Beacon Hill Home Remodel is a Designer’s Dream
A client who J & M worked with several times referred the owners of a North Beacon Hill home built in 1924 to J & M Remodel. The homeowners contacted us to discuss a significant addition and renovation to their home. As their family grew over the years, the homeowners realized that they needed more space in their Seattle home. Deciding to stay in the house and remodeling instead of moving was an easy choice. Their home location is near downtown Seattle and is close to excellent parks and schools.
After accepting the project, we learned that J & M would be working with Atelier Drome, a Seattle-based architectural firm. Teaming with Atelier Drome again was pleasant news. J & M partnered with Atelier Drome on several challenging projects.
The Beacon Hill project’s major work item was adding a bump-out of the home’s complete back end that increased the house’s square footage. The bump-out includes an extensive remodel of the kitchen, a downstairs kitchenette, another bathroom, and a hobby area. A new, large deck off the bump-out completed the requirements for that part of the project.
The J & M crew overcame several challenges during the project. The biggest challenge was that the project required below-grade—below ground level—excavation. The excavation was necessary before framing the addition could begin.
While the bump-out addition is the centerpiece of the project, the design included more updates. J & M also remodeled a full bath and a master bath as part of this project. The remodel also includes new flooring, an inset tile to hardwood transition, staircase, desk nook, and a butler’s pantry.

Kitchen Remodel for KJR Radio Host Ian Furness’ Home
Ian Furness of KJR Sports Radio 950 AM contacted J & M Remodel about a kitchen remodel project for his family’s home. Not only is Ian widely known for his highly-rated radio show, but also as the popular correspondent for the Seattle Seahawks, including interviews with players for Q13 Fox News in Seattle.
Justin was excited to meet with Ian, and they hit it off right away as both Justin and Ian are proud Washington State University Alumni (Go Cougs!). Justin walked through the Furness kitchen, and after discussing their requirements, Justin provided Ian and his wife, Tammy, with J & M Remodel’s estimate. After reviewing and refining the J & M Remodel proposal for their project, Ian and Tammy decided to move ahead with J & M Remodel for their kitchen remodel project.
The Furness’s wanted a crisp and clean new look for their kitchen. They selected a distinctive glass subway tile, which the J & M Remodel team set in a stacked pattern using Schluter edging rather than bullnose. In addition, a new quartz countertop was installed, as well as under-cabinet lighting, and glass pendant lighting was installed over the island. It was essential for J & M to stay on-time with this project because as soon J & M Remodel completed our part of the project, Shearer Painting came in to paint all of the kitchen cabinets.
Thanks to the excellent coordination between the Furness family, J & M Remodel, and the painting contractor, we completed the kitchen remodel project without a hitch, and the final result turned out great!
The Furness’s are enjoying their new kitchen now, and you can hear Ian’s testimonial on his KJR radio show. Here is a portion of Tammy Furness’ Google review of J & M Remodel’s work on their kitchen remodel project:
“We recently remodeled our kitchen, and J & M Remodel installed the counter tops. It looks amazing! We are loving our new kitchen! If you have been thinking of doing any home updating, be sure to reach out to Justin and Mandy, as they will take great care of all your home remodel needs! We highly recommend J & M Remodel!
Ian and Tammy Furness.”

Newcastle Kitchen Remodel With a New Baby
J & M Remodel Earned This Customer’s Repeat Business Based on Trust and Experience
J & M Remodel worked with the owners of their Newcastle home on two home remodel projects previously. Recently, our customers contacted J & M Remodel when they were ready to tackle their kitchen remodel. An additional requirement: work carefully to provide kitchen access during the project for our clients and their six month old baby.
The clients’ kitchen already had great quality cabinets, but the finish on the cabinets was dated. J & M Remodel contracted with our preferred painting subcontractor to bring the existing cabinets up to date and completed the look by installing new cabinet hardware throughout. Our clients selected two quartz countertops, deciding on a lighter Carrera look for the island and a dark quartz for the surround. J & M Remodel installed under cabinet lighting as well as all new appliances and fixtures. A bright white subway tile backsplash was installed that covers the area up to the ceiling around the sink. New paint and the installation of five-panel doors completed the renovation.
Our Customers Say it Best
We've reposted our clients’ review about their experience with their kitchen remodel and satisfaction with the results from our Reviews page below:
“Our kitchen remodel was our third project with J&M. With a 6-month old in the house, it was important to have access to parts of the kitchen throughout the project and for the project to finish on time. Having worked with Justin and Russ in the past, we knew they would deliver. We’ve definitely found a partner with J&M, and we will continue using them for future projects.”
